Ally McCoist in Rangers confidence surge but admits Celtic need ‘biggest collapse of all time’

Hopeful Ally McCoist has waxed lyrical about Rangers’ week to remember but believes divine intervention is needed in the race for title glory.

The Ibrox icon was running wild after the win over Braga on Thursday night before he savoured the big win over Celtic at Hampden while in Barcelona.

McCoist admits he has a newfound belief in Rangers after a pair of stirring victories that has them buoyant ahead of the Europa League semi final and the Scottish Cup Final.

And the 59-year-old joked that Braga’s goal from nowhere on Thursday that momentarily silenced Ibrox was just part of the experience following Gio van Bronckhorst’s side.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “It’s been a great week. I was at the game (on Thursday). I was working and it was brilliant.

“The atmosphere was amazing. They should have been home and dry, honestly it could have been 5-0 then we lost a goal right in the last seven minutes to take it to extra time.

“But that’s just what we do.”

McCoist is quick to admit that something extra special is still needed to land the title with Celtic six clear with only five games remaining.

But he’s not ruling out an unlikely comeback with the great rivals set to lock horns on May 1.

He added: “I hope so. You’ve got to keep going. You’ve got to believe and keep going.

“It would be one of the biggest collapses of all time but you’ve got to believe it can happen.”
